The Institute for Natural Gas Research is seeking part-time Program Initiative Leaders to support development in a range of energy areas as: oil and gas, water management, and energy production. Each program initiative leader will facilitate interaction and collaboration among faculty, students, student groups, research institutes, industry partners, and the scientific research community. Each program initiative leader will interact with the faculty members of INGaR as well as outside faculty with the purpose of learning about research capabilities, interests, and availability to take on new projects or involve students in their work. Moreover, the program initiative leaders will gather information from time to time concerning faculty research equipment, laboratory, & personnel requests. He/she will seek to understand the specific research capabilities of INGaR and the capabilities of other institutes on campus and at other universities in order to determine any intersections, overlaps, or points of unique capabilities existent between INGaR and other institutes. The program initiative leader will aid in establishing INGaRs position as a research institute among its peers at Penn State and other universities, and will facilitate collaboration and cross-pollination among these groups insofar as it assists in furthering INGaRs mission objectives. The program initiative leader will act as a point of contact between INGaR and Penn State students, including students who are interested in learning more about INGaR and the Penn State Energy University. He/She will assist in administering periodic courses designed to educate & involve students in INGaRs research objectives and partnership goals. Responsibilities include representing INGaR during on-campus events for students & the Penn State community. The successful candidate will interface with student groups to provide information concerning INGaR updates, course offerings, and research opportunities. Furthermore he/she will gather feedback from student groups concerning new ideas to improve INGaRs ability to meet its objective of educating & involving the student body. He/she will support relationships between INGaR and industry partners. Specific objectives include determining industry needs & opportunities for collaboration between INGaR and various industry sectors. The program initiative leaders will collect information which will allow INGaR to position itself to effectively address the specific needs of partners. He/she will assist in representing INGaR to the national scientific community. This responsibility includes interacting with government agencies, universities, and scientific organizations. Specific duties may involve travel to tradeshows and conventions as a representative of INGaR. The successful candidates will also be responsible for supporting the Director of INGaR, which from time to time may include tasks outside the scope of this job description, as agreed upon by the Director and the program initiative leader. This is a part-time opportunity, maximum of twenty (20) hours of work per week. Specific qualifications include: a Bachelors degree in a technical discipline is required; Masters degree preferred; strong understanding of underlying scientific principles and the ability to apply that knowledge base to a broad spectrum of research proposals; demonstrable experience in professional networking and interfacing with industry representatives and scientists; effective communication: speaking and writing skills. The successful candidate must be a self-starter with good time management skills. The available positions will also serve as educational training in business development and program management. The successful candidate will learn by doing and lead by doing the tasks a project manager would perform in a corporate setting.
